How To Use The Moxxi Pilates Chair

Moxxi Pilates Chair Review and Workout

If you follow me on insta- you’d know I’m all about the MoxxiPilates chair.

You’d also know that I had an Exo Chair from Balanced Body for a few years.

The Wunda Chair is a dynamic piece of Pilates equipment.

Joseph Pilates invented so people in mall NYC apartments could easily store it.

His original design was meant for it to be an actual chair when not in use- hence the name.

Fun Fact-  Joe’s clients named all off the equipment and it really is a wonder piece of equipment….

All Pilates Chairs - no matter the brand- have a smaller foot print and frame then most of the other spring loaded equipment.

There is a pedal that has springs- which act as resistance- and small upholstered table top.  Small by design perhaps, but this thing packs a punch.  It can be used seated, kneeling sitting plus you can use it almost as a loaded step up machine.

Since Ive worked on many many brands - Gratz, Balanced Body, Peak and Merrithew- over the last 19 years- I’m more than qualified to give you a comparison.

Full disclosure- I’m an affiliate for Moxxi- but I will still give an unbiased review of its shortcomings.  Scroll down to the video to see me talk about it more and for the workout.  If you're short on time here’s the full list of pros and cons

But first- please note- this is a small indie brand that is WOMAN OWNED.

95 percent of my current and pastt Pilates clients have been WOMEN.

Why are so few of the Pilates equipment companies owned by women???  This baffles me.

Dorianne Walkama founded and invented the Moxxi Pilates because she saw a need in the market and has a huge passion for Pilates.  She is a WORKING Pilates Instructor- I don’t think you can say that about many of the CEOS of the other mentioned brands.  She is also a single mom of two - when you buy a chair from her- you will literally make her smile and do a happy dance.  And it is also something you  probably CANNOT say about those other brands….

Pros:

  • Lightweight and has a tiny tiny tiny foot print- I can lift this baby up with little effort and the only thing that touched the floor are the four feet-

  • The feet have wheels- if you can’t lift it easily- just roll it baby

  • It comes with the covered elastic bands- many brands do not and you would need to purchase them separately.  Plus there are TWELVE hooks you can strap them to.

  • The price- it is half of an Exo chair

  • IT SWIVELS- the table top can swing and twist with you - making many of your favorite Classic Pilates moves- instantly more dynamic and oblique focused

  • The SIDE Handles- OMG this makes things both more accessible- you can grab them for balance- and adds the ability to create different moves and flows.

  • It can be disassembled and flat packed if you need to move (Do not ask what it cost to move my Exo Chair from Cali to NYC)

Cons:

  • It is lightweight- please be mindful when using the elastic bands.  If you pull on them with lots of force- it will not stabilize and the chair will move.  This is only an issue if you are on the floor with the band- if you are sitting on the table top it will stay as your weight will be on it

  • The springs are lighter.  If you’ve never worked on a chair before- this will not be an issue.  If you are an instructor- you will find these springs to not have as much tension as a more classical machine.  The heavier springs on the chairs give you more “help” - meaning certain advanced exercises may not be doable here.

  • I find the spring changes to take slightly longer time here- you’ll see it in the video.  You have to reach into the mouth and then up to get to the hooks- on a classical chair you just had to reach in

  • This was not the easiest thing to put together.  I got it done on my own - and it is not as bad as Ikea assembly……However Dorianne is responsive and if you get stuck - shoot her an e-mail and she’ll give you a hand.
