Hey – I Get It!

Here’s my confession:

I made a commitment to optimal health a long time ago.
 
My evolution from gym rat to fitness instructor didn’t surprise anyone who knew me well.
 
I collected fitness certifications like a girl scout collects badges.
 
And then one day, I got out of bed and was 40 pounds overweight!
 
You see, right after I earned my first Group Fitnesscertification, I decided to enter a bodybuilding contest. 
 
I trained hard for over a year. Then 18 weeks before the competition, I went on an extreme diet where I reduced my calorie intake by 50% and worked out vigorously 3x a day.
 
My knees and joints hurt... 

All. The. Time.

While I looked fit, I felt sluggish. 

I had to drag myself out of bed each morning because I had no energy.  

And I drank almost 13 {insert correct number} cups of thick black coffee each day to get me from sunrise to sunset.

I wanted to win - no matter what the cost was to my body.

I achieved my personal goal and placed 4th {insert ranking}in the fitness competition. 
 
And I was so happy to be finished with that grueling regimen, that I immediately resumed my pre-competition eating and workout habits. Which wrecked my metabolism.

Which is less-than-awesome for most people. 

And mortifying as a fitness professional.

Fortunately, my friend, Sally Sue, {insert her name} was apprenticing at the original Pilates Studio in New York.
 
She saw I was struggling and wanted to help me. So she invited me to join her classes.
 
I immediately felt the power of Pilates. 
 
It corrected the alignment of my knees and my pain vanished. It remedied the posture I’d ruined by overtraining. And Pilates strengthened my core.
 
The bonus was that it helped me get lean again.
 
At the same time, I started to get curious about nutrition.
 
I hired a nutritionist. 
 
I experimented with a variety of foods.
 
And I decided to earn my nutrition certification. The one I chose was based on well-researched, evidence-based science.
 
I loved how it taught me how to prepare and eat delicious and nutritious foods.
 
So I combined my nutrition knowledge with what I learned from Pilates, and got myself back in shape and feeling great.
 
Without starving myself or working out relentlessly.
