Pilates is total body conditioning system.  Named after German-born Joseph H. Pilates, it was created 100 years ago.  This mind body balancing exercise system emphasizes body alignment and breathing- helping you both strengthen and lengthen.  

Joe called it "Contrology"- it's all about controlled moves focused on your core- the abs, lower back, hips and butt.  He created over 500 exercises, where both the major muscles AND the supportive muscles work evenly and simultaneously.  You strengthen AND stretch, which restores muscular balance and improves posture. The mind guides the body through the series of meticulously designed movements. Pilates is built around 6 principals: control, precision, concentration, precision, breath and flow.

Both floor or "mat" & machine or "apparatus" exercises are used. The Mat-Work uses body-weight and can be performed almost anywhere, anytime. All of the resistance in the Pilates apparatus comes from springs. The primary machine is the Reformer. It is bed- like and 100s exercises can be performed it.  Other equipment, all spring-loaded, includes the Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Electric Chair, Barrel and Spine Corrector.

Jessi is one of the few Second Generation Pilates Instructors in the Nor Cal Region.

"Second Generation" is just a really fancy way of saying one learned directly under Joes' original students, known as "first-generation teachers." Jessi studied under the late, great Madame of Pilates, Romana Krysaowska after a 750 hour apprenticeship in New York City.  

Romana herself started training with Joe when she was 16 and dancing for the New York City Ballet.  Jessi is 100% certified on the mat, reformer, Cadillac, Chairs, Barrels,  many small props and is well versed on Gratz, Balanced Body, Peak, FitFormers and Mega Former equipment. She has been teaching Pilates and Yoga since 2003 and Fitness since 2001.
